Hong Kong is a special administrative region of China. But despite its close proximity to the mainland, Hong Kong has dodged a major COVID-19 outbreak without implementing a full lockdown. As of May 7, 2020, Hong Kong has recorded no new case of coronavirus infection for more than two weeks. Experts attribute Hong Kong’s success to the application of preventive measures it learned from its experience with the outbreak of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome or SARS in 2003.
