Lockdown Diaries | Las Vegas, Akiko Sedantes

Las Vegas in Nevada, USA, is considered the entertainment capital of the world. It is home to 2.5 million people, with livelihoods dependent mostly on hotels and casinos, which make up the city’s major economic drivers—tourism and entertainment. Last April 1, 2020, Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak issued stay-at-home orders for all residents of the state and closed down non-essential businesses. This order has resulted in massive layoffs with 24% of Nevada’s workforce filing for unemployment. According to the US Census, there are 123,891 Filipinos in the state of Nevada. Let us take a look at how the lockdown in Las Vegas has affected the life of our kababayan, Akiko Sedantes, a hotel employee, in #LockdownDiaries.
