WEATHER TODAY – August 7, 2014 Jose Exit PH today, Habagat prevails

Typhoon Jose was located 1,020 kilometers northeast of Itbayat, Batanes as of 10 AM today, with maximum sustained winds of 150 kph and gustiness up to 185 kph. According to PAGASA, Jose has slowed down, moving north at 11 kph.  At 7 AM, the typhoon was located outside the country.

Meanwhile, the Southwest Monsoon or habagat continues to be enhanced by Jose, bringing rains over theI locos region and Batanes, including the Calayan Group of Islands.

PAGASA Weather Forecaster Gener Quitlong said that the presence of monsoon rains depends on the weather disturbances near or inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR). As Jose is still near the borderline of PAR, it will continue to pull the Southwest Monsoon, prompting PAGASA to issue a gale warning over the western, northern and eastern sea boards of Luzon. Small fishing boats are advised not to venture out into the sea while large sea vessels are alerted against big waves.

Eleven Davao Earthquakes

Davao Occidental has recorded eleven earthquakes for the first week of August. Highest of which was magnitude 4.6 that struck 187 kilometers southeast of the municipality of Jose Abad Santos.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHILVOLCS) confirmed the tremors in the province, known as an active area for earthquake activities.

No damage or casualties were reported.
