WHEN TAGAYTAY TURNED GRAY

Due to the phreatic eruption of Taal Volcano in Batangas last Sunday, January 12, 2020, several areas in the country were covered by ash, including the famous People’s Park in the Sky in Tagaytay City, about an hour’s drive away from the volcano.

Here are some of the photos taken by Jerome Austria Abuan.

According to United States Geological Survey (USGS),  phreatic eruptions are stream-driven explosions that occur when water beneath the ground or on the surface is heated by magma, lava, hot rocks or new deposits.

As of writing, Taal Volcano is still raised to alert level 4, meaning hazardous eruption is possible within days.
